Is anyone else wondering what the heck happened to considering that Shaun Hill fella? I was impressed with him at the end of last season and could have sworn they'd give him a shot at continuing his success. Why mess with a winning formula? He's got a better win % than either of the other two, he knows how to get rid of the ball quickly and safely, PUT HIM IN for chrissake!

alex smith is the worst quarterback weve ever had. what you see from him is what you would of saw from jim drunkenmiller if he would have started 2 years for us. mike nolan looks like such a bad coach because alex smith can only hit a reciever who is not moving. we never do a slant cuz he cant hit a man who is on the run. we won games and scored points with shaun hill and hostler and we lost games and couldnt score at all with smith and hostler. the coaches arent the problem. smith is. are defense is way better than it was last year. vernon davis looked like a bust because alex smith doesnt have the arm to hit the deep ball, and osullivan does. frank gore will be a beast this year he will not be stopped. and he is a great reciever. im so sick of hearing that he isnt. we will make the playoffs and win games no one expects us to win.

Good stuff, Jim... I check your blog here weekly, and usually agree with what I see. I also agree with a 6 or 7 win season with JTO under center. I would have added a few more wins if Alex was staring , and Martz had been working ONLY with him until now. Anyway, I posted this one on my regular forum, and keep up the good work.

First let me just say that I have been a niner fan since 1980, when I was 8 years old. Been a hell of a ride and will die a niner fan.

Now....

You can throw all the facts and data you want to make a case for Alex. But I tend to trust my gut when looking at talent, cause no matter how many facts you look at to make a "prediction" you can be sure of only one thing. That prediction will always be wrong. Anyway, when I look at Alex play there is nothing that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. He is a bust. BUST! Time to move on dude, what ever the reason (hurt, 3 OC, first year as a pro) he is not our future. Hopefully, we get lucky in a draft and find another Montana, Brady. BTW - do you know we could have selected Brady in that draft. We had the pick to get him. I guess that just supports my insight that no matter how much facts and data you have you will never be dead on in your "prediction". Keeping your fingers crossed that JTO or Hill has what it takes to win us 8!

I respectfully disagree.

Alex Smith has had one season that counts for anything. One season he had to learn how to play pro ball. One season was lost to injury. 24 games as a healthy starter is not enough to judge a guy who played the spread/option in college.
